Ceramic Tech Session - FAQ

Fequently Asked Questions

How is your ceramic coating different from others out there?

We developed our ceramic in response to the coatings that weren’t living up to their claims. Our proprietary formula is manufactured in the United States. We have a direct line to production and can tweak proportions with just a few days notice for a specific application or changing weather conditions.

How long does the ceramic glass coating last before needing to be reapplied?

This coating will stand the test of time. It’s a PERMANENT coating that must be sanded off to be removed.

What happens if the weather is bad on the days of my appointment? Are you still able to ceramic coat?

Absolutely! Both our Tallahassee and Sacramento facilities are 20K square feet and designed to accommodate rigs up to 14’ high, so that covers just about anything that could come our way and allows us to complete all of our work under roof. Additionally, our workspace is temperature and humidity controlled to provide stability during the application process.

Why should I have ceramic coating applied? Isn’t my RV or car already coated with something protective?

RVs, cars and trucks do have a basic clear coat and many manufacturers offer a clear coat product that can be purchased for an additional cost, but those are coatings that will degrade over time and break down. OURS IS PERMANENT AND WILL NOT FLAKE, CHIP, YELLOW OR PEEL.

What is the difference between clear coating and ceramic coating?

Clear coating has been around for 40+ years and it provides some resistance to scratches and the elements, but has its limitations. Clear coat is a protective coat over the base paint, but it’s not a hard shell like our ceramic glass. Also, because of environmental regulations, clear coats aren’t what they used to be … Their quality is diminishing. Our ceramic coating is cutting edge and resists scratches and things sticking to it. It offers a hard PERMANENT shell that always looks and acts like it’s just been waxed.

Is the ceramic glass specific to Airstreams or can other brands of RVs be coated?

We can do Airstreams and fiberglass RVs. Our proprietary coating can also be used on boats, tow vehicles and cars

Will your ceramic coating prevent fiberglass trailers from developing that chalky look and Airstreams from developing filiform corrosion?

ABSOLUTELY! Aluminum is a volatile metal and corrodes quickly, so does fiberglass. When your shiny new Airstream or other RV hits the road and is exposed to air and the elements aluminum oxide or other oxidation occurs and that produces that dull, chalky look. Our coating provides a ceramic glass shield to protect your rig from the elements and prevents degradation of the exterior.

Can the stainless steel rock guards on an Airstream be ceramic coated?

Definitely, we first clean the rock guards with a proprietary cleaner to remove any stains and then we ceramic coat the guards.

Does the Tallahassee location do RV repairs?

In addition to ceramic glass application, our Tallahassee location offers some of the same services found at our Vinny’s Northbay location. Just give us a call with your specific questions. 850-300-0199

Does ceramic coating make it easier to wash my RV?

Absolutely! Bugs, road grime, sap … It all comes off with virtually no rubbing!

Is there a ballpark figure for cost?

The average cost is about 5K for a 25 foot trailer. If you decided to have your tow vehicle coated at the same time, we offer a discount for the second vehicle.

How long does the ceramic coating process take from start to finish?

Plan to leave your rig with us for 5 days. We’ll get to work the day you drop it off and our process from prep to the hardening of the ceramic glass will get you on the road worry free when you leave our shop.

What happens if it’s applied incorrectly?

If it’s applied with an imperfection, then it doesn’t leave our shop. Every application is applied with a painstaking process and delivered with a smooth glass finish.

Can you do cars?

We can ceramic coat your tow vehicles, cars, boats, trailers and motorhomes. If it’s under 14’ high it’ll fit inside both of our locations.

How does the ceramic coating impact the sealing on the roof?

We don’t ceramic coat the roof of most RVs because the ceramic coating won’t stick to the seals. More importantly, if a roof is ceramic coated any future sealant won’t adhere to our ceramic glass. We’re committed to improving both the appearance and longevity of your rig, and will never compromise on technique. However, a molded fiberglass trailer, such as a Casita, lends itself to having the entire body ceramic coated, including the roof.

Does your ceramic coating hold up the same for all areas of the country?

We have a humidity meter that we use in shop to ensure proper application in both our California and Tallahassee locations. Post application, our coating withstands triple digit and subzero temps for extended periods of time.

Does your ceramic coating add any weight to the trailer?

Negligible.

Can the air conditioner covers and Fantastic Fans be ceramic coated?

Absolutely, because they don’t have seals.

Is there anything that must be done to maintain the ceramic coating?

To cut the grime, wash with your favorite car soap that doesn’t include any sort of wax. The ceramic coating allows insects, tree sap, bird droppings and road gunk to essentially wipe off. Soap is a surfactant so you’ll need very little muscle to get your rig sparkling clean. The other bonus is that the ceramic coating is so slick that you can use a leaf blower to dry your rig. And, there’s absolutely no need to ever wax with our ceramic glass coating!

How do you prep the Airstream or RV for ceramic coating?

We meticulously clean the exterior of the RV and polish out any mars that are less than fingernail deep on the surface of the RV. If it’s more than the depth of a fingernail we won’t be able to buff that out.

Any issues with your ceramic coating damaging vinyl graphics on RVs?

None at all! Our coating will preserve the graphics on your RV because they are now underneath the ceramic glass.

Do you ceramic coat solar panels?

Upon request & we haven’t had any negative feedback.

Do you ceramic coat vintage trailers?
